# Connect your AI app

> One URL connects Speed to every AI app: https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp. Add it, click Connect, and click Allow.

Source: https://tryspeed.ai/docs/connect

Speed's connector is a hosted MCP server. Every AI app uses the same URL:

Connector URL:

```
https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp
```

You never need an API key, a client ID, a client secret, a plugin or Node. If an app asks for any of those, leave the field blank.

## What happens when you connect

1. You add the URL to your AI app and click **Connect** (or the app's sign-in button).
2. A **Connect Speed** page opens on app.tryspeed.ai. Sign in if it asks: **Continue with Apple**, a work email link, or an access code.
3. Click **Allow**. Your AI app now has Speed's tools.
4. When the chat first uses Speed, it sends you a link to your Speed tab, `https://app.tryspeed.ai/?agent=connect`. Open it in any browser: the link carries the connection, so the tab connects by itself.

Technical detail, for IT teams: remote MCP over Streamable HTTP, with OAuth 2.1, dynamic client registration and PKCE.

## Which apps are tested

**Tested** means we have run a full build through that app end to end (claude.ai, 6 November 2026). **Not tested yet** means the steps follow the app maker's current docs, but we have not run a build through it yet.

## Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

Status: **Tested**

Add Speed once as a custom connector. Tested end to end on claude.ai on 6 November 2026. Claude Desktop uses the same connector.

1. Open claude.ai (or the Claude Desktop app) and go to **Customize → Connectors**. Older versions have it under **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Click **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**.
3. Type the name `Speed` and the URL `https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp`. Click **Continue**.
4. Claude detects the sign-in settings by itself: **Sign in now**, and OAuth client **Register automatically**. Leave them as detected and click **Add**. Do not enter an API key, a client ID, a secret or a header.
5. Click **Connect**. A **Connect Speed** page opens on app.tryspeed.ai. Sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**. Claude shows **Connected to Speed**.
6. Under **Tool permissions**, every tool starts as **Needs approval**. For a smooth run, set both groups, **Read-only tools** and **Write/delete tools**, to **Always allow**. Otherwise Claude stops to ask before every step.
7. In a chat, click **+** (bottom left of the message box) → **Connectors** and check **Speed** is switched on.

Connector URL:

```
https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp
```

- Team and Enterprise plans: only an Owner can add a custom connector. The Owner goes to **Organization settings → Connectors → Add**, hovers **Custom**, picks **Web**, and enters the same name and URL. Each member then finds Speed in **Customize → Connectors** and clicks **Connect**.
- The Free plan allows one custom connector.
- Claude Desktop uses the connectors on your Claude account. You do not edit any config file.

## Claude Code

Status: Not tested yet

One command adds Speed. Then you sign in once from inside Claude Code.

1. Open a terminal and run the command below. It adds Speed to Claude Code for the folder you are in.
2. Start Claude Code in that folder: type `claude` and press Enter.
3. Type `/mcp` and press Enter. Choose **speed**, then **Authenticate**.
4. Your browser opens a **Connect Speed** page. Sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**. Claude Code now lists speed as connected.

Terminal:

```sh
claude mcp add --transport http speed https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp
```

- To use Speed from every folder, add `--scope user`: `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user speed https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp`.
- If Claude Code was already running when you added Speed, quit it (type `/exit`) and start it again so it sees the new server.

## ChatGPT

Status: Not tested yet

ChatGPT adds remote MCP servers as plugins. Your workspace policy decides whether you can add one.

1. Go to **chatgpt.com/plugins**.
2. Click **+**, then **Add custom MCP server**.
3. Name: `Speed`. Under **Connection**, enter the server URL `https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp`. Set authentication to **OAuth**.
4. Read the risk warning, confirm it, and click **Create as a plugin**. Install the plugin.
5. When ChatGPT asks you to sign in, a **Connect Speed** page opens. Sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**.
6. Start a new chat, type `@` and pick **Speed**.

Server URL:

```
https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp
```

- On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, an admin may have to allow custom MCP servers first.
- Older guides describe this as **Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode → Create app**. Use that path if your account still shows it.

## Codex CLI

Status: Not tested yet

Add Speed with one command, then log in with a second.

1. In a terminal, run the two commands below. The second one opens your browser.
2. On the **Connect Speed** page, sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**.
3. Start Codex (`codex`) and paste the Speed prompt.

Terminal:

```sh
codex mcp add speed --url https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp
codex mcp login speed
```

Or add it to ~/.codex/config.toml:

```toml
[mcp_servers.speed]
url = "https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp"
```

- `codex mcp add` does not log in by itself. Run `codex mcp login speed` after it, and again if the login expires.

## Cursor

Status: Not tested yet

Add Speed to Cursor's MCP config file, then sign in from Cursor's MCP settings.

1. Open (or create) `~/.cursor/mcp.json` for every project, or `.cursor/mcp.json` in one project.
2. Paste the config below. If the file already has an `mcpServers` block, add only the `speed` entry inside it.
3. Save the file. In Cursor's MCP settings, Speed shows a sign-in prompt: click it.
4. On the **Connect Speed** page, sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**.

~/.cursor/mcp.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "speed": {
      "url": "https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

- Team admins can restrict Cursor to an allowlist of MCP servers. If Speed does not appear, ask them to allow the URL.

## VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Status: Not tested yet

Add Speed as an HTTP server for Copilot's agent mode.

1. Open the Command Palette and run **MCP: Add Server**. Choose **HTTP**, paste the URL below and name it `speed`. Or paste the config below into `.vscode/mcp.json` in your project.
2. Start the server (VS Code shows a **Start** link above it in `mcp.json`). Your browser opens a **Connect Speed** page: sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**.
3. Open Copilot Chat in **Agent** mode and paste the Speed prompt.

.vscode/mcp.json:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "speed": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

- Your organisation's Copilot policy can turn MCP servers off. If the Add Server command is missing, ask your admin.

## Gemini CLI

Status: Not tested yet

Add Speed with one command, then authenticate from inside Gemini CLI.

1. In a terminal, run the command below.
2. Start Gemini CLI (`gemini`), type `/mcp auth speed` and press Enter.
3. On the **Connect Speed** page, sign in if it asks, then click **Allow**.

Terminal:

```sh
gemini mcp add --transport http speed https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp
```

Or add it to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "speed": {
      "httpUrl": "https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

- Use `httpUrl`, not `url`. In Gemini CLI, `url` means an SSE server.
- Google replaced Gemini CLI with Antigravity CLI for unpaid and Google One users on 18 June 2026. Antigravity CLI reads `~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json` and uses `serverUrl` for the URL.

## Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

Status: Not tested yet

Windsurf is now Devin Desktop. Add Speed to Cascade's MCP config.

1. In Cascade, open the MCP menu and choose to open the raw MCP config file (`mcp_config.json`). Open it from the menu rather than typing a path, because the location changed when Windsurf became Devin Desktop.
2. Paste the config below. If the file already has an `mcpServers` block, add only the `speed` entry inside it.
3. Save and refresh the MCP servers. If Speed shows **Authenticate**, click it, then sign in and click **Allow** on the **Connect Speed** page.

mcp_config.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "speed": {
      "serverUrl": "https://app.tryspeed.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

- On Teams and Enterprise, admins can turn MCP off or allow only listed servers.

## Check that it worked

In a new chat with Speed switched on, send this:

Type this:

```
Call Speed's status tool and tell me what it says.
```

If the chat says no Speed tab is connected and gives you a link, the connector works: open the link, sign in, and ask again. If the chat says it has no Speed tools, see [Troubleshooting](https://tryspeed.ai/docs/troubleshooting.md#the-chat-cant-see-speeds-tools).

Then paste [the Speed prompt](https://tryspeed.ai/docs/prompt.md) to start designing.
